Due To The EU’s Vote, Apple Will Need To Change Its Charging Port
A resolution passed by the European Parliament mandates that all consumer electronics, including iPhones and AirPods, will have to use USB Type-C as their standard charging port by 2024.
Apple Will Need To Change Its Charging Port To Type – C
The vote confirms an earlier agreement between EU institutions and would make the USB-C connector used by Android-based devices an EU standard, forcing Apple to change the charging ports for its devices.
In addition to reducing e-waste, the new law empowers consumers to make more sustainable choices, according to the Parliament.

Analysts also said that deal also includes e-readers, earbuds, and other technologies, which could also mean Samsung, Huawei, and other device makers.
Previously, Apple warned that the proposal would stifle innovation.
Ben Wood, the chief analyst at CCS Insight, said the vote made it “inevitable” that the expected iPhone 15 in 2023 will have a USB-C port.
“It’s a triumph of common sense. Although Apple has a huge installed base of Lightning cable-powered devices, the ubiquity of USB-C across all consumer electronics products means that harmonizing over USB-C makes perfect sense.”
As a result of the new rules, consumers will not have to purchase a new charger every time they buy a new device since they can use one charger for many small and medium-sized portable electronic devices.
Regardless of their manufacturer, all new mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld video-game consoles, and laptops that are rechargeable via a wired cable and operate with up to 100 watts of power delivery, will have to be equipped with USB Type-C port.
The same charging speed will be available for all fast-charging devices, so users will be able to use any charger that is compatible with their devices.
