Google Duo is gone, but its icon returns on Android
Google Duo is gone: After rebranding its Duo video calling app as Meet, tech giant Google has brought back the original Duo icon and name as a separate shortcut that appears in the app launcher. And also in the Play store, its name is Google Duo but on the Apple App Store, its name is Google Meet.
Google Duo is gone, but its icon returns on Android
Google earlier this year announced the merger of its two video calling services into one and had chosen “Meet” as the surviving brand.
The Google Duo app is the only one that is still being used in terms of implementation and is being upgraded with a new home screen and features from both services.
The report states that Duo has over 5 billion installations as against more than 500 million Meet, which makes it clear.
In early August, an update rolled out that replaced the blue Duo icon and introduced the Meet version in four colors. After updating and opening the app, Duo disappears from the launcher.

Google said that it intentionally brought back the Duo icon with this update on Android. It is meant to help people who search/type “Duo” to launch the application.
The company said it is working to make the upgrade easier for users.
Recently, the company also announced new features like scheduling and joining meetings, virtual background, in-meeting chat, and more, in addition to the existing video calling features after merging Duo and Meet.
