How To See Chunk Borders In Minecraft
Sometimes it’s important to see Chunk Borders In Minecraft (the border of each chunk), and you can easily do it if you know how. The Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft don’t always work the same way. To see chunk borders in your game, you should first check the edition you are using and then use the method that works there.
Minecraft’s Steve character is supposed to be the average person’s height (5.6 feet or 1.7 meters), it has opted not to use distance relative to humans, as most games do. Instead, Minecraft measures distance in chunks, which isn’t as simple as it sounds.
One chunk in Minecraft is 16 by 16 blocks long and wide but a staggering 256 blocks tall. The height of a chunk is adjusted based on your settings, but it’s basically the distance between the bedrock of the bottom and the dirt on the top. The chunk can accommodate 65,536 blocks in a regular setting, so since the bottom is so deep, most players think of a 16-by-16 surface.
Below we have methods to enable Chunk Border for both Java Edition and then Bedrock Edition.
How to see chunk borders in Minecraft Java Edition
In Minecraft Java Edition, the game makes things a lot easier for you. Using this feature, you can see what the game sees as a chunk and where the boundaries start and end.
Hold down the F3 key on your keyboard and press the G key. You’ll see a wireframe border appear around you and a message stating that the game will now show a chunk border. Because it’s a very distracting way to play, we recommend only using it to plan what you’ll do next and see how well you’re doing.
It’s easy to see through wireframes, so if the boundaries of each section were visible, you couldn’t see which section you were in. This is why Minecraft Java Edition only shows you the border of the section you are currently standing on. If you move from one to the other chunk the border will move to the new segment.
To disable chunk borders hold the F3 key and press the G key.
