YouTube Experimenting With New Feature That Will Allow Users to Zoom-in on Any Video
Video sharing platform YouTube is testing a new mobile app feature with its premium subscribers, which will allow them to zoom in on any video.
YouTube New Pinch to Zoom Feature
According to 9to5Google blog post that the latest opt-in experimental feature enables pinch-to-zoom gestures for video and it works in both portrait and full-screen landscape view.
According to the company, the Zoom feature will be in testing until September 1, giving YouTube about a month to take user feedback and improve things before potentially rolling it out more widely.
To enable Pinch to Zoom feature, open YouTube’s Settings menu on your phone or from the website. As The Verge reports, as long as you’re subscribed to YouTube Premium, there should be a “Try new features” section.
Currently, the only feature available for testing is “Pinch to zoom”. There seems to be a delay between being able to select the test and actually being able to use the pinch gesture. However, users will be able to zoom in up to 8x after enabling it.
There are already ways to zoom in on YouTube’s content with the accessibility functions on Android and iOS, and apparently, it’s much easier to do so in a desktop browser. But it will be more convenient to have it as an optional native feature in the mobile app.
Last month, YouTube rolled out picture-in-picture mode for iPhone and iPad after first testing it among premium subscribers; That hugely useful feature has been already available on Android for a long time.
